Good Morning Mix: Revisit the sonic slasher film of RL Grime’s ‘Halloween VIII’ mix

Peace, love, and taco grease.” – Guy Fieri

With the much anticipated release of RL Grime‘s Halloween IX on deck for tomorrow, October 29, it’s only right to summon the spiritual predecessor in last year’s Halloween VIII.

What’s made RL’s Halloween series such a resounding success over the years hasn’t just been his impeccable tastes and esteemed productions, but the evident fact that this is a true passion project for the musician. It’s easy for a DJ to put together a standard mix and slap a Halloween title on it, but much like Lane 8‘s Seasonal mixes, it’s clear that RL Grime really embodies the theme of All Hallow’s Eve when concocting his annual witch’s brew.

Grime brings Halloween VIII to life with select samples and visually dark productions, ultimately fixating the bodacious cross-section between trap and hip hop on the spooky sounds of the supernatural. The series is known to preview new productions and tease IDs, with a hot point of VIII being “Outta Here,” RL Grime’s since released joint tune with Whethan.

A true slasher on the decks, RL Grime’s shows why he’s one to be feared with Halloween VIII. Tune in to RL Grime’s Twitch channel, tomorrow, October 29, for the live release of Halloween IX.

Dancing Astronaut will continue to revisit each installment of RL Grime’s “Halloween” series daily leading up to the arrival of “Halloween IX” on October 29. Follow the journey with our RL Grime Good Morning Mix series.
