Chromeo deliver visual for quarantine anthem, ‘Clorox Wipe’

After a two-year break from producing new music, Chromeo hopped in the studio at the very beginning of the COVID-19 quarantine to produce their aptly titled new album, Quarantine Casanova. While sanitizing wipes might be all but impossible to obtain these days, the video from the album’s first track, “Clorox Wipe,” is anything but and has now arrived.

The video depitcs Chromeo’s David Macklovitch (“Dave 1“) and Patrick Gemayel (P-Thugg) in the studio, trying to dissipate the quarantine-induced boredom. When a magnitude four earthquake hits, the studio is shaken up, and their classic chrome electric guitar case falls open before them. After cleaning off the glimmering instrument inside with a Clorox wipe, the two are transformed into disinfectant wipe-like 2D beings themselves, who galavant around the country to the tune of the vibrant, sanguine song.

In a press release, frontman Dave 1 stated,

“It’s sort of an allegory for everything that’s been flattened since the beginning of the pandemic. Human interactions, our sense of time, our experience of space. As we’re all confined to our screens, it’s all become two-dimensional.”

Not only did Chromeo brighten our days in quarantine with their eccentric and syncopated chords, but they also donated $50,000 proceeds from the album to Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp COVID-19 Relief Fund. Gemayel was quoted saying,

“Right now, between the COVID-19 uptick and the election, everyone’s an anxious mess. As artists with a platform, it was our duty to raise awareness [in] the communities most affected by the virus. As purveyors of funky music, it’s also our duty to provide some levity, to lift people’s spirits. We hope this video can help.”
