Pretty Lights unexpectedly takes the virtual stage at Break Science concert [Watch]

During a short stint at a Break Science concert in South Carolina the weekend of October 30, the ever-elusive Pretty Lights was slightly less illusory. As the Break Science set wound to a close, the producer, known offstage as Derek Smith, could be seen on the LED screen, streaming from his studio in New Orleans.

Pretty Lights, who’s been all but absent from the sonic scene for the past two years, graced the concert for two songs—”Shining Bright Despite The Plight” and “High School Art Class”—before virtually exiting the event as unexpectedly as he entered it. In recent months, discrete occurrences such as a Pretty Lights studio sighting and the expulsion of all posts from his Instagram page fueled fan speculation that the producer was plotting a comeback of some sort.

However, aside from breaking his silence to support the Black Lives Matter movement and donate $10,000 to Act Blue Bail Funds for Protestors, Pretty Lights has kept fans sitting, waiting, wishing. Whether any further developments from the Pretty Lights camp are to come remains indeterminate at this time, signifying that listeners should enjoy this sighting for what it is: a transient flash of one of their favored electronic talents.
