Kasbo unveils otherworldly ‘Shut The World Out’ video

Hot on the heels of Kasbo‘s sophomore album, The Making of a Paracosm, comes the second music video of the LP’s release cycle, a visual for “Shut The World Out” featuring Frida Sundemo. The latest accompaniment epitomizes precisely what the word paracosm denotes: a “detailed imaginary world” that can originate in childhood.

According to a Foreign Family-orchestrated Q&A on the music video, much of Kasbo’s inspiration for this world derived from Scandinavian folklore and children’s books, specifically those written by the renowned Astrid Lindgren, author of Pippi Longstocking. Drawing on these influences, the visual begins with a little boy reading a children’s book in a homemade fort of quilts and blankets. The boy enters into the fantasy world of the book, landing somewhere amid a Swedish hillside. The chill-inducing reverie continues to become more and more ethereal as our main character adventures deeper into the intricacies of his own imagination.

Encapsulating the whole of the album, “Shut The World Out” calls forth an escape that so many have yearned for this year. Both the song and its video deliver a surreal and fantastical yet grounding experience that can be undertaken below.
