Walker & Royce encapsulate 2020 with first original of the year, ‘Need2Freek’

Walker & Royce have graciously bestowed fans with “Need2Freek,” their first original cut of 2020, just before this strange year draws to a close. Released via Dirtybird, the track is an exemplification of every emotion dance music devotees have felt since the beginning of the year all in one five-minute tech house package.

The duo is best known for their ability to curate their sets for the exact needs of their live audience, and this year has clearly taken a toll on them. Finally releasing their rework of Channel Tres‘ hit, “Controller,” the New York City producers have decidedly jumped outside of their comfort zone, taking a different approach to their latest delivery.

Opening with a wavy synthwork, and the catchy, repetitive mantra, “I need to freak,” the track swells with a smattering of hi-hats and energetic kicks. Creating an understated-yet-euphoric atmosphere, the track builds before eventually landing gently on the phrase “I will never stop dancing.” The house groove is a perfect amalgamation of the zeal of a dancefloor hit combined with the introspection that we’ve all been forced to endure this year.

End 2020 with a bang and stream “Need2Freek” below.
