Leaked setlist alludes to possible Daft Punk guest appearance at The Weeknd’s Super Bowl performance

The “setlist” has been identified as a direct match to the tracklist for The Weeknd’s second greatest hits album, The Highlights, announced on January 28 and slated to drop on February 5. Given that the LP is being released in anticipation of his primetime performance, just two days before his halftime slot, The Highlights‘ tracklist could double as The Weeknd’s Super Bowl setlist.
When the NFL confirmed The Weeknd as the Super Bowl LV halftime performer, there was one question at the forefront of electronic music enthusiasts’ minds: could a Daft Punk appearance be in the cards? A leaked setlist, first identified by GQ Mexico, seems to suggest so.
The 18-song record, said to be the blueprint for The Weeknd’s imminent Super Bowl stint, notably includes his two Daft Punk features, “I Feel It Coming” and “Starboy.” Next to the tracklistings, which occupy the fifth and sixth spots on the list, respectively, is “Ft. Daft Punk.” Though this could be read as a signal that Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter might very well grace the football field alongside the After Hours producer, it’s also possible that this is nothing more than a representation of the songs’ original credits.
Notably, The Weeknd’s Kendrick Lamar feature, “Pray For Me,” follows the same format, either giving credence to the setlist’s acknowledgment of the featured artist/vocalist credit, or indicating a surprise guest appearance from the good kid, m.A.A.d city album maker, as well.
Ariana Grande‘s name also figures on the list, and of Daft Punk, Kendrick Lamar, and the Positions vocalist, Grande might be the performer most likely to show up to football’s biggest night given the styling of the song on which she features. Instead of “Ft [artist name],” the tracklisting that Grande assists shows up as “Love Me Harder, Ariana Grande & The Weeknd.” This representational difference seems to signal a live duet with the Sweetener soprano, and could dispel the notion that Daft Punk and/or Lamar are to appear.
Of course, time will tell, and fans won’t have to wait long to find out, what with the 2021 Super Bowl slated for February 7. And, in the meantime, never-before-seen footage from Daft Punk’s Lollapalooza 2007 set, uploaded for the very first time on January 22, is available here.
