Flux Pavilion refurbishes Whethan and Grouplove’s ‘Upside Down’
In early February, Flux Pavilion called his sophomore LP, .wav, “the start of a new chapter.” Today, he adds another page to that chapter.
The storied beatsmith’s first non-.wav-related outing of the new year materializes in an unexpected but characteristically auspicious remix of Whethan and Grouplove‘s “Upside Down.” He’s in good company; with his flip, Flux Pavilion formalizes his status as the fifth member in the party of five Fantasy revisionists. Tchami, Midnight Kids, Biicla, and Saint Punk have each submitted respective spins of different Fantasy tracklistings to date, and the English producer’s take—in the tradition set by its predecessors—comes in mint condition.
The spry original, stamped with Grouplove’s indie-rock seal, channeled a BØRNS feel inside Whethan’s sonic framework. Flux Pavilion buoyantly flips the script, adding melodious, futuristic leads to mellow out the ruggedness of the original. Bearing Flux Pavilion’s animated flourish, “Upside Down” has parachuted to streaming platforms and is available to enjoy below.
