Premiere: The Magician works his magic in remix of Nicky Night Time, Ali Love, and Breakbot’s ‘Ubiquity’
On March 4, The Magician can be found reaching into his hat and pulling out not a rabbit, but rather a remix of Nicky Night Time and Ali Love‘s Breakbot feature “Ubiquity.” With its honeyed, mid-tempo beat and the warmth of its classic disco trappings, the trifecta’s output—released in mid-January—gave the electronic genre further reason to rally around disco sound—something that producers and their respective followings have done ardently of late.
When Nicky Night Time and Ali Love declared a rework in order, The Magician emerged as an attractive tastemaker from whom to commission the alternative “Ubiquity” take, and now, Dancing Astronaut readers have the opportunity to see just how much of a bullseye this call was. Though The Magician’s black belt remix of “Ubiquity” won’t formally release until March 5, the full-length version is available one day early, only on Dancing Astronaut.
Lacking nothing by way of the energy that it brings to speakers, The Magician’s take foregrounds the drum work and general groove put into place on the original while adding touches of his own bold sonic signature. Under normal circumstances, it’d be something for dance floors to lust after, but these days, the would-be club favorite is reason enough to scuff the kitchen or living room floor—in characteristic Magician fashion.
