Heimanu and MAYKO bring trap to the highest level on Sable Valley link-up, ‘Akera’
Everyone’s heart skips a beat whenever Sable Valley sends out its lime-tinted graphic that adds an artist—or artists—to the label’s lineage. To swell the already lethal cause that RL Grime had licensed across the first third of 2021, Sable Valley brought in two of trap’s fastest-surging names for “Akera,” formally recalling Heimanu after his Sable Valley Summer Vol. 1 standout, “Worlds,” and swearing in MAYKO, documenting time after time that San Diego prevails as the breeding ground for electronic music’s coming generation.
Welcomed as part of Heimanu’s ID-jammed opener ahead of the bombshell drop of Grime’s ninth Halloween broadcast, “Akera” grounds itself to squarely equate to what the label head envisioned when setting up his own trap shop. After meeting up in his hometown of Sydney, Australia, both Heimanu and MAYKO outline everything that’s permitted the genre’s abiding NuRave blitz, splicing their respective practices into one united piece of unassailable trap nobility on the highest scale imaginable.
