Daft Punk are among Kacey Musgraves’ muses for ‘Golden Hour’ follow-up

Kacey Musgraves‘ long-awaited answer to Golden Hour is inspired in part by the gilded glint of two helmets equally as familiar to the dance context as the 2018 LP was to award nominations. If Golden Hour was “fantasy,” Musgraves said in a recent interview with Elle, then it’s successor is “realism,” inspired by the likes of not only Daft Punk, but also Sade, Weezer, the Eagles, and Bill Withers—a mixed bag of muses, some of which would not be expected to inspire the follow-up to the 61st annual Grammy Awards’ Album of the Year.

Though the specifics of how Daft Punk will stylistically inspire Musgraves’ fifth studio effort are yet to be heard—and notably, a release date yet to be declared—the vocalist’s highlighting of the now-separated icons is a signal to the dance space—prick your ears. This advice grows sager with Musgraves’ suggestion that the forthcoming LP might not anchor entirely in country; “I feel like I don’t belong to country in any way on one hand, but on the other hand, I’m deeply rooted in that genre. So I’m not owned by it,” she said.
