ZHU provides deep house remix of Coldplay’s ‘Higher Power’
Coming off the recent release of his DREAMLAND 2021 LP, ZHU has seemed nearly unstoppable. To celebrate the release, ZHU headed out to Colorado for three performances at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, some of the first shows at the storied venue since its re-opening in late April. The house artisan wowed the crowd with first live performances of new DREAMLAND 2021 cuts, but he also pulled a few unexpected tracks out of his library including his new remix of Coldplay‘s “Higher Power.”
“Higher Power” is a prototypical Coldplay synth-pop single, centered around an uplifting breakdown, an upbeat groove and Chris Martin‘s warm vocals. However, ZHU fully drags the single into his realm, subverting the original towards a darker and moodier direction. By swapping the drumkit and bright synth chords for a pounding kick and sparse piano work, ZHU alters the entire mood of “Higher Power” into his brand of sultry and brooding house. Despite sharing one of his most ambitious projects of his career just a few weeks ago, ZHU’s “Higher Power” remix shows he might have much more in store before long.
