Mike Posner summits Mt. Everest, raising funds for Detroit Justice Center

In 2019, Mike Posner spent six months walking from one coast of the United States to the other. Despite a stop in Colorado after being bitten by a rattlesnake, Posner was able to walk into the ocean in Los Angeles, completing his journey. About halfway through his Walk Across America, as he headed over the Rocky Mountains, Posner began to consider another daunting journey—summiting Mt. Everest.

“While my walk was about me finding myself, I want my climb to be about others,” Posner said.

The musician began training with Dr. Jon Kedrowski, who has summited Mt. Everest several times. Spending six months to prepare for the trip, Posner and Kedrowski embarked on their journey to Mt. Everest in April. Now, Posner has shared that he, Kedrowski, Dawa Chirring Sherpa, and Dawa Dorje Sherpa have reached the summit of Mt. Everest and have begun their journey back down.

Posner climbed Mt. Everest to honor his late father, raising funds for the Detroit Justice Center. The musician has already raised $229,831 of his $250,000 goal on GoFundMe, with Posner sharing,

“I’ve decided to dedicate my climb to raising funds for the Detroit Justice Center – the only organization of it’s kind doing criminal justice reform work that would make my dad beam with joy – and it’s led by Black women.”

Posner released his latest album, Operation Wake Up, in 2020. The musician also revealed that he continues to sit on a number of unreleased collaborations with the late superstar producer and frequent collaborator, Avicii.
