Lane 8’s This Never Happened celebrates half-decade tenure with anniversary compilation, ‘V’
Exactly five years ago on June 27, 2016, Lane 8 translated his cellphone-less event concept titled “This Never Happened” into a full-fledged record label with a sole click of the upload button. A half-decade turn of the calendar following “Fingerprint,” Lane 8’s melodic house startup has evolved into one of the highest-standing imprints in all of electronic music, and This Never Happened is taking a moment to step back and reflect on how far its progressed with an aptly branded commemorative EP, V.
A one-of-a-kind compilation that collates 21 total tracks, V revisits 16 of This Never Happened’s most-prized deliveries from the past five years, including the head honcho’s iconic “Ghost Voices” rework, Sultan + Shepard’s “nCTRL,” OCULA’s take on Le Youth’s “Waves,” and Rinzen and Anaphase’s “Some Good Here.” It wouldn’t be a proper celebratory release without a batch of new music, with Dancing Astronaut’s 2020 Artist of the Year roping in a group of the label’s brightest names—Grigoré, Le Youth, Sultan + Shepard, Anderholm, and OCULA—to add their own melodic house twists to five This Never Happened Classics: Avoure’s “Aura,” Falden’s “Don’t Wanna Know,” Lane 8 and Kasablanca’s “Run,” Lane 8’s “Little Voices,” and Massane’s “Not Alone.”
