With Moments drawing closer to its scheduled arrival on September 3, EMBRZ wanted to supply one last look into his forthcoming This Never Happened LP. Both “Where You Are” with Lizzy Land as well as “Rise” had already validated the towering promise that his debut 11-track album had to offer, and EMBRZ has now made that notion true for a third consecutive instance with “Stay” as his concluding preview.

Unearthing itself from Lane 8’s “Summer 2021 Mixtape” ID bag, EMBRZ’s piano-laden single puts forth yet another stunning, comforting work of melodic house to come out of Moments, paired with a fitting visual that sums up each and every setting that one might imagine while listening to “Stay.” On release day, EMBRZ shared a message on his Instagram about his creative process throughout the album and how “Stay” came to be, explaining,

“A lot of this album was written on the piano. The way I normally started, was to sit down and mess about on the piano until I came up with some chords or an idea. When I wrote this track, I was listening to a lot of film soundtracks, esp Max Richter. I fell in love with the soundtrack to the show ‘The Leftovers’, and I was inspired to write something on the piano that made me feel that way. I don’t think I got anywhere as close but I was happy with how the chords to ‘Stay’ turned out. It felt a bit weird to have a piece of piano on its own, so I molded it into a chill dance track.”
