Gene Farris’ golden touch glints on “Mr. Everybody,” the Chicago house pioneer’s fifth release of the 2021 calendar year, and one that notably takes him back to his very own Farris Wheel Recordings. Trailing July’s “How Do We Feel?,” produced in partnership with Danny Howard and disseminated via Saved Records, “Mr. Everybody” stands out on account of its buoyant beat work and a soulful hook that might very well be called the heart of the house heater. As some listeners will note, “Mr. Everybody” samples Zhané’s “Hey Mr. D.J.,” revitalizing the 1993 original in the context of a simmering underground framework.
