One Nio release begets another, as the emergent talent has rendered clear with the delivery of “Heart Stops,” the follow-up to his second-ever single, “Fight Like Hell.” In its coverage of the Gattison-assisted sophomore stint, Dancing Astronaut underscored the stylistic differences between “Fight Like Hell” and Nio’s dub-minded career-commencing cut, “Black Hole.” “Heart Stops” solidifies suppositions that Nio’s sound is bound not by borders. Decidedly more dance-pop than either of its elders, “Heart Stops” situates a Gryffin-esque topline above a hybridized base that harnesses radio appeal while evidencing Nio’s ability to work in and across various dance-versed aesthetics.
