Nio partners with Gattison for sophomore single, ‘Fight Like Hell’

Titularly, “Fight Like Hell” can be read as a summary of just what Nio will do to break through in the electronic context, and as his sophomore single evidences, although he’s willing to “fight like hell” to pave his path to dance prominence, he likely won’t end up needing to. Dispensed via Pitch Control Records, “Fight Like Hell” positions Nio alongside Gattison for a successor to the former’s debut, February’s “Black Hole.”

Although an artist’s first-ever release serves as an incomprehensive preview of that to come, “Black Hole” can’t exactly be considered the stylistic prelude to “Fight Like Hell.” In an unexpected musical maneuver, Nio boldly flips the table on “Fight Like Hell,” benching the dubstep drip of his starter single for a vocal-centric, uplifting stint that in no way aesthetically mirrors his career opener. It’s an auspicious sonic plot twist from an ascendant act whose dynamism is apparent at an early point in the Nio story, and what comes next is anyone’s guess—and everyone’s interest.
