Chris Lorenzo drops highly sought-after house cut with High Jinx, ‘California Dreamin”

House heads rejoice, as one of the most highly sought-after IDs of the summer finally receives an official release. Chris Lorenzo’s “California Dreamin’,” featuring High Jinx, got its first crowd test at Chris Lake and Fisher’s Under Construction back-to-back at the duo’s Relentless Beats-produced Arizona show. Since then, house devotees have been clamoring for the track’s release ever since. “California Dreamin'” is appropriately backed by Chris Lake’s Black Book Records and is Lorenzo’s second release on the label following 2018’s “Ectomorph.”

The Chris Lorenzo and High Jinx version of the song has roots back to early this summer, but the true origin of the house cut goes back to 1965 when Los Angeles-based folk-rock outfit The Mamas & The Papas released “California Dreamin'” as a single that took over American radio waves. The original became so iconic that it netted a spot on Rolling Stone‘s “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” list. The styles of past decades always find a way of reentering the zeitgeist, and Lorenzo’s High Jinx-assisted take is a perfect example, with Lorenzo transforming an all-time classic into a high-octane dance floor anthem. The pioneering UK bass-house producer shared his sentiment on the new release,

“This track was originally made as a DJ tool. I take no credit for how well it has been received as all I did was threw some drums, an 808 and some FX over a banging acapella. You can thank The Mamas & The Papas for this banger. I’m just happy to be able to share it with everybody.”

This marks Chris Lorenzo’s ninth release of 2021 following releases like “Fly With Us” with AC Slater and “Something’s About To Go Down,” the latest album single from Anti Up. Listen to “California Dreamin'” below.
