Idris Elba will ‘lean away’ from acting to focus on electronic music

Idris Elba‘s acting career has been filled with a multitude of highs, including starring roles in shows such as The Wire and Luther. On top of that, he’s also released his album, Fudge, in the past year while creating a respected career in the music industry.

As the 49-year-old superstar continues to balance both his acting and music careers, he recently revealed to Vanity Fair that he believes it’s time to take a step back from acting to focus exclusively on electronic music. Elba stated,

“Some may think, ‘Well, it will be the death of your acting if your music’s shit.’ I’ve dealt with the internal struggle of that over the years. So now I’m at peace and I’ve chosen: this is what I’m doing, and I’m going to do it. Some will love it and some will hate it.”

Elba went on to explain that he was tired of spreading himself thin by working on new films while trying to find time to get into the studio.

“The thing about making music is it’s a very consuming process,” Elba said. “It’s very difficult to shoot a movie and then go off into the studio or make a song. It’s like trying to build a soufflé while making a brick wall.”

September 2021 saw Elba remix grandson and Jessie Reyez‘s single “Rain” from Suicide Squad. Elba also released a mix on Spotify in December, which is currently available for fans in the United Kingdom.
