Mr. Oizo gets weird with ‘VOILÀ’ EP

Artist, musician, filmmaker, and producer Mr. Oizo has returned with his latest work, a generous EP titled VOILÀ. Pulling clear-cut influences from MF Doom and Madlib’s masterpiece, Madvillainy the EP features nine tracks that see Mr. Oizo collaborating with Italian rapper, hip-hop artist, and one-half of DJ duo Crookers: Phra.

Both Mr. Oizo and Phra previously collaborated in 2016 on “No Tony,” which appeared on Mr. Oizo’s record, All Wet. The two went on to collaborate several more times, including on “Ed Rec 100” and “Dolce Vita” in 2017 and 2019, respectively.

VOILÀ is filled with an eclectic range of tracks that see Mr. Oizo and Phra experimenting with a variety of sounds. “Hot in Her” sees the pair provide its own take on Nelly’s 2002 hit, “Hot In Herre,” while tracks such as “Date 2” make its Madvillainy influences more apparent.

VOILÀ arrives as Mr. Oizo’s first long-form endeavor since his 2019 EP, Rhthme Plat. Although it’s been nearly three years since he dispensed new music, he released his film, Deerskin, in 2021.
