Must-stream: Rooftop Collective closes hiatus with textured ‘Release.’ compilation album
Rooftop Collective’s year-long hiatus comes to a textured close with Release., a five-pack of instrumentally rich inclusions seated within the electro-soul genre. Oozing ambience, the cohesive collection harnesses a mid-tempo pace that warmly stretches throughout the project and is first heard on its opener, Michal Menert’s “Winter Love.” This soft-bodied ode to the colder months, which sources inspiration from J Dilla and Madlib, transitions into the titillating scratching of Statik, Since JulEYE, and Brisco Jones’ “Victorious.” Keys and sax later intermingle with sultry finesse on “Self Love,” from McWavy.
“Self Love” provides a viscous introduction to “Into Motion,” a gritty number supplied by BITSKY and Tigris. ToneVizion, Future Joy, and Ocean Keys provide a bliss-ridden finale to Release. on the project closer, “Surrender.” A mellifluous effort primed for repeated run-throughs, Release. is out now via Rooftop Collective and can be streamed in full below.
