Hip-hop, house intersect on Apollo Xo, TekNoNo’s ‘Gang’
Synths take center stage on an Apollo Xo– and TekNoNo-orchestrated collision of hip-house and house known to streamers as “Gang.” Stitching police radio and siren samples into the fabric of the bass-indulging number, the Chicagoan genre rover and Teknono—who makes up half of the Detroit minimal duo Invite Only—fashion an ear-catching cut with room-filling capacity.
The bassline on “Gang” is that of a plump, pulsating kind, lending power to a production that surfaces as Apollo Xo’s second original of 2022, followed closely by his recent remix of Maximo Quinones’ “You.” Apollo Xo and TekNoNo’s first-ever collaboration, “Gang” is also coincidentally the latter’s second output of the new calendar year, trailing his January single, “DYSFUNCTION.”
