Nicky Romero dons his Monocule hat for ‘On My Mind’ with Tim van Werd
Nicky Romero is reassuming his Monocule garb for a sultry new single produced alongside Tim van Werd, “On My Mind.” As with many Monocule releases, piano merges with moody vocals and generally dark themes that lure listeners into Monocule’s crepuscular production.
Romero previously contextualized the Monocule sound and its elements in his Saturday Night Session with Dancing Astronaut. “Whenever [the song] is darker with a theme or a story to tell, it is Monocule,” he remarked. “Nicky Romero songs are like a film with a beginning and an end. Monocule songs are each a chapter of a larger story.”
“On My Mind” is Romero’s first Monocule release of the calendar year, directly following his final one-off of 2021, “Your Eyes.” Co-producer Tim van Werd has not only been a frequent collaborator on the Monocule project, but also a Protocol Recordings mainstay.
