TATE SEDAR addresses career, mental health challenges in thoughtful ‘Find A Way’ visual

In 2005, TATE SEDAR could be found fiddling with GarageBand on the MacBooks in the Apple stores surrounding his hometown of San Francisco. In 2020, he could be spotted on stages in support of Don Diablo, Cash Cash, Wolfgang Gartner, Dallas K, and Henry Fong. And when the COVID-19 quarantine placed in-person music programming on an indefinite pause, SEDAR was found on screens, playing one of EDC’s Virtual Rave-A-Thons that same year. The 15 years in between were fueled by a passion for electronic production—and mental health struggles. SEDAR’s non-linear path to name recognition in the dance space and its taxing realities provide the narrative arc for “Find A Way,” an audiovisual experience that acquaints viewers with the fine points of his ascent. And as the music video illustrates, both in SEDAR’s perseverance and in its concluding message (pictured below), “Find A Way” has dual significance. Titularly, “Find A Way” gestures to Sedar’s resolve to not merely find, but also create a place for himself in the dance space. It also embraces the visual’s closing sentiment that those bearing the weight of stress, anxiety, feelings of doubt, and other emotions “can find a way through it.”

The single—his first of 2022—relays this message in an upbeat fashion that instrumentally engages with guitar and flute. Symbolically crafted, “Find A Way” also includes breakbeats that serve as a nod to his first vinyl spins. The song’s breakdowns, he says, resemble the lows that he hit early on. The thoughtful visual accompaniment earnestly confronts career- and health-related challenges below.
