Bleu Clair creatively recalls ‘Have Me All’ on ‘Funk Accelerator’

In December 2020, Dancing Astronaut declared Bleu Clair an Artist to Watch in 2021. The Indonesian house authority has spent the past year-plus demonstrating why the title was applicable in a cohesive, club-minded fashion that’s reliably found him working at the intersection of house and tech-house. With each output, Bleu Clair’s identity as one of house music’s most nimble minds is increasingly cemented; and this time, it’s “Funk Accelerator” that’s doing the reinforcement.

On his latest, Bleu Clair’s samples Jelita’s vocals from his July 2021 single, “Have Me All.” The producer’s use of the sample is interesting; Jelita’s vocals filter in at the opening of “Funk Accelerator” and though their presence is slim at the intro, they command more of a presence as the record progresses. Throughout “Funk Accelerator,” Jelita’s vocal sample vies for attention with a spoken vocal sample that loops the track’s title and a galvanizing call to bring the “old-school sound to the new shit.” The transition—and sometimes, the dual interplay—of the samples is fluid and the sheer concept, downright creative. Polished and primed for deployment, “Funk Accelerator” will soundtrack dance floor scuffing on Bleu Clair’s spring tour, to commence in Toronto on April 21. A complete list of dates for the spring 2022 live initiative, which will culminate in a back-to-back set with Matroda at Electric Daisy Carnival 2022, is available on Bleu Clair’s website.
