Flume brings Damon Albarn to the Coachella stage, releases two new tracks ahead of forthcoming ‘Palaces’ LP
Coachella 2022 has come and gone after three years of waiting for the renowned music festival’s return, and as always, the slated performers pulled out all the stops. One of the most notable was of course Flume, who was joined by names like Beck, Caroline Polachek, and Vince Staples. The decorated Aussie export also brought out Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn for the second weekend’s performance, with whom Flume just released “Palaces,” the titular track of his forthcoming LP, alongside “ESCAPE,” another pre-album single with KUÇKA and QUIET BISON. The two new tracks are delivered alongside their video counterparts from hyperreal visual genius Jonathan Zawada.
Primed for the Coachella stage following his weekend one duet with Billie Eilish of the Gorillaz hit track “Feel Good Inc.,” Damon Albarn, sat at the piano behind Flume, shared the ambient and ethereal “Palaces,” allegedly a collaboration that has been about five years in the making and one of Dancing Astronaut‘s most-anticipated IDs of 2022. The joint release “ESCAPE” is an experimental dreamscape, opening with glittering synths and syncopated vocals from friend and frequent collaborator KUÇKA. Teaming up with 18-year-old rising star and production design prodigy Quiet Bison for “ESCAPE” the two tracks once again showcase Flume’s untouchable versatility and range. In addition to Mr. Albarn, Flume brought to the Coachella stage KUÇKA, MAY-A, Laurel, and Toro y Moi.
