Tourist issues new single ‘Avalanche’ ahead of fourth studio LP, ‘Inside Out’

Tourist‘s “Avalanche” reveals itself as the second pre-album single ahead of his fourth studio LP Inside Out, following his recent house entity “Your Love,” which landed in March via Monday Records.

Tourist’s latest output features an ethereal introduction swiftly moving into cutting kicks and layered synthwork, alongside syncopated chops from an old vocal sample of Ellie Goulding. With grief being the centralizing motif of Tourist’s forthcoming Inside Out, stemming from the loss of a close friend at the beginning of the pandemic, the album is an ode to processing human emotion. States Tourist on the upcoming album,

“Initially – [‘Avalanche’] was a very glacial ambient piece, just synth arpeggios and pads. I was looking out over the sea whilst working on it, it was a deeply moving place to write music. I found an acapella of Ellie Goulding’s on my laptop and I heard this phrase which sounded like ‘Hold Me’, I loved how haunting that was. My instinct on previous albums might have been to leave it ethereal, but with this record – I wanted to push it to a more dance floor place. In the end it became quite a cinematic piece of UK Garage.”

Stay tuned for Inside Out to hit streaming platforms on May 20, and in the meantime, listen to “Avalanche” below.
