Dance, global pop, and guaracha converge on Gian Varela, Steve Andreas’ ‘Veneno’ featuring Felicia
What might a single with pop inclinations and a unique, Latin-leaning make up sound like? Gian Varela’s initial inquiry would beget another: “What would a guaracha record sound like if it were fused with Dance/Global Pop Record” sensibilities?” The Panama-born producer, regarded as a music pioneer in Latin America, set mind to studio, seeking an answer that now surfaces in the form of “Veneno.” The collaboration with Spinnin’ Records’ Steve Andreas lays claim to a larger-than-life character of sound seemingly made to pair with pyro. A subwoofer weapon, “Veneno” features Spanish language vocals from Felicia.
“Making dance music in Spanish is just one part of it. It’s bringing one’s culture through the sounds, melodies and ideas where these fusions really get their fire,” Varela contextualized his approach to converging elements of the Spanish language and culture with those of the dance/electronic genre. “Starting with Mexico, stopping in Panama, and going all the way down to Argentina, the Latin culture is so big and there’s still so much to explore and fuse. Possibilities are endless and when combined with other world cultures, you end up with a global sound.”
The approach multifaceted and the energy high, “Veneno” is now streaming everywhere, courtesy of Barnaton.
