Purity Ring divulge new ‘graves’ EP, embark on first tour in five years

After going five years without a full tour, Purity Ring are finally able to put an end to the live performance drought, now touring their latest graves EP. Amidst the havoc of COVID-19, the Canadian-based duo composed of singer-songwriter Megan James and production maestro Corin Roddick were forced to cancel three of their forthcoming tours following 2020 LP WOMB.

The EP’s titular track “graves” has been one that the pair have been holding onto for about eight years cumulatively. “We made probably four or five completely different versions of the song,” says Roddick in a recent interview. With the seven-track collection built around the premiere track, Purity Ring dives into new territory while keeping the same eerily enchanting nostalgia fans fell in love with on their debut album Shrines.

Opening with “graves,” Roddick’s skilled production proudly shines through with an electro-pop touch, a crisp build up to an shimmering piano progression. Moving through the album, listeners fall into the catchy chorus of “neverend,” hyperpop adjacent synths on “watersong,” eventually finishing the voyage with the intimate and glistening piano send-off “xsalt.”

graves is the first release from their newly minted imprint The Fellowship. Purity Ring will be gliding swiftly through their North American tour until July 25. Don’t miss out and check out their dates here. In the meantime, listen to the new EP below.
