Chris Costello’s ‘We Could Be Together’ EP is a time machine that takes us back to dance music’s ‘golden age’

On Chris Costello’s We Could Be Together, an EP acts as a time capsule, transporting streamers dead-center in a festival crowd during progressive house’s heyday. Costello’s debut EP is a rush of nostalgia: kandi, PLUR, and rushing, euphoric melodies. Costello cites dance music’s “golden age” as his muse for the project, which compellingly recommends him to veteran progressive house listeners, as well as those newer to the subgenre (think, for instance, those attracted to it through Audien’s recent efforts). One mark of a skilled conceptual artist is the ability to capture the sound and the feeling of a previous time in music in the present moment. On We Could Be Together, Costello does just that, earning his stripes as an artist worth watching in the months to come.
