Oso: The New York R&B artist reviving the genre

The last decade has played a pivotal role in the transformation of R&B music, fusing and moulding into its own modern shape with influence of other genres at play. Hip-hop and modern day Afrobeat have found their place, but a focus on the original fixings of the popular 90’s genre, characterized by artists like Ne-Yo, Ginuwine, and Usher haven’t been lost. Though the resurgence of R&B is back in its own time, with newcomer New York talent Oso, with his own spin.

Oso’s innate triple-threat talent status as a songwriter, singer, and performer have shined light on the Italian-American R&B producer from Queens, New York. With a steady stream of hits including his recent release “Fumbled”, which which has since gained thousands of streams across various digital platforms, this timeless single, among his many other releases, helped establish a profound fan base beyond American borders.

Oso has established extensive music industry networks with producers, directors, and artists. His innate talent also earned him collaborations with other notable R&B talents, including the sensational Tory Lanez, a track due for release soon. Other artists he worked with include Eric Bellinger, Hitmaka, and Chrishan. Working with such talents was a significant milestone for Oso, who believes much is yet to be received from his side. A high school dropout, Oso began his career as a waiter at a local Italian eatery. He was expelled from school due to low performance, and music became his last option for a successful life. However, he had to take up all sorts of odd jobs working hard to raise money to fund his dream. At the same time, Oso was nurturing his talent, becoming an unlikely connoisseur of contemporary R&B, collecting CDs from pioneers of the genre such as Jagged Edge, New Edition, and Jodeci.

A passionate and relentless individual, Oso managed to save enough to hit the studio, and over the next few years, he became a studio junkie spending his nights in studios and trying out new sounds. His hard work and dedication saw him grow and establish a presence as an underground talent, and he soon began to announce his presence. As Oso honed his sound, people in New York’s music scene took notice. Some of hip hop’s earliest partners included Uncle Murda and Maino.

Today, Oso has scaled to to garner millions of views, with a deeper purpose to revitalize R&B in his hometown and help influence the genre’s future. “My biggest success is still being able to wake up every day pursuing my passion,” he says. With a debut project produced by some of the most innovative minds in the business and a fresh goal, he’s ready to embark on the next phase of his life. “I want to put out as much music as possible to bring more positive vibes to music. I’m with Diddy, let’s put more love into our music,” Oso concludes.
