RL Grime spotlights the next era of trap with ‘Sable Valley Summer Vol. 3’

Trap fans rejoice: Sable Valley Summer Vol. 3 is here. The label’s compilation series has become an annual tradition in assembling some of the genre’s best and brightest up-and-coming talents. And 2022 is no different. Another tradition also continues with the label’s junior seasonal installment, with new music from the boss RL Grime himself also being present on the 14-part tracklist. At long last, the trap god’s “Halloween X” ID beside Hex Cougar and Dancing Astronaut Artist to Watch in 2022 fknsyd has arrived in grand fashion. Officially named “Silo,” the three-headed powerhouse of a collaboration was a no-brainer inclusion on our most-anticipated IDs of 2022 list at the top of the year and it’s final form delivers in every sense.

But while new RL Grime is always welcome, the main focus of Sable Valley Summer Vol. 3 is about the rising names in a genre that’s as thriving as ever. And that stacked lineup sees the likes of ODEA and Squired, VILLA and juuku, Jon Casey and Oddly Godly, Holly and Baauer, REMNANT.exe, Control Freak, SSOS, TWONSKi, Altare and Dravyn, Ivoryghost, Saka, LYNY, and X&G all make an appearance beside “Silo.” Few labels have been more efficient at identifying top-tier talent than Sable Valley over the years, which has been true testament to the curation ability of not only RL Grime but also the label team he’s put together. While plenty of names across the compilation receive another member certification letter, there may also be an abundance of those whose names might not ring a bell, meaning everyone should listen closely and take note the names because history repeats itself and those names will come into play once again.

The end-of-summer tradition from Sable Valley now becomes the soundtrack in the run up to RL Grime Presents Halloween: Dead Space, live from Los Angeles’ The Forum on October 27. And there’s no question that new Sable Valley IDs will be rinsed that evening, cementing their placement on our most-anticipated IDs list when the time comes in the new year. It’s a cycle trap fans are getting quite used to at this point, and one that they won’t be getting tired of any time soon.
