Dino Shadix’s ingenuity shows on Disciple Round Table-backed ‘Lil T-Rex’ EP

For bass music with imaginative sound design and heavy low-end presence, dance audiences are learning in real-time that they ought to be turning to Dino Shadix. This sentiment is confirmed by her sophomore EP, Lil T-Rex, issued via Disciple Round Table. The follow-up to her debut EP, 2021’s Way Back When, is a multi-dimensional five-track package that flirts not only with bass, but also with dubstep, including experimental lofi dubstep (see “Steady Saurus”) Beyond the crisp, inventive sound design audible across Lil T-Rex, it’s worth mentioning that Dino Shadix’s selection of vocal samples is refined and on-target. Altogether, the EP, which bears no features or collaborations, underscores Dino Shadix as an up-and-comer deserving of consideration on end-of-year artist to watch lists.

The release of the Lil T-Rex EP tacks on to a number of resume-bolstering activities, including Dino Shadix’s placement on Subsidia’s Dusk Vol. 3 compilation in 2021 (“Hydra”), a spot on Ophelia RecordsAdvent Volume 5 compilation, her prior debut on Disciple Records (“Gloom”), and triumph in a remix competition hosted by Viper Recordings in 2019.
