ILLENIUM, Nurko reconnect for progressive house remix of JVKE’s ‘golden hour’
ILLENIUM and Nurko are no strangers to working together. It all began with the latter’s remix of the formers “Take You Down” back in 2020. And things came to a head in 2021 when the two united on “Sideways,” an official collaboration on ILLENIUM’s Fallen Embers that would eventually go on to become a no-brainer selection as one of Dancing Astronaut‘s 2021 top tracks of the year. Fast forward a year later and lighting has struck yet again, this time in the form of an official remix for JVKE’s “golden hour.”
The remix had originally debuted at ILLENIUM’s Nocturnal Wonderland set a month prior where he teased it as “kind of a prog house banger.” And he wasn’t lying. The co-venture includes a slow, soft piano-laden intro behind JVKE’s crisp vocals before building into a crescendo and dropping into euphoric progressive house bliss. It’s far from either artists’ primary genre, but both have dabbled in it recently. Both Nurko’s Arrival track “Breathing Again” with skye silansky and ILLENIUM’s album deluxe cut with BANNERS “Hurts Like This” notably reside in the genre and that’s on top of the fact that ILLENIUM has been employing it more and more in his sets with the inclusion of mashups like “Heavenly Side” and “If I Lose Myself” as well as “Beautiful Creatures” and “Calling.” And for listeners searching for something a little more akin to their Fallen Embers submission, stick around until the tail end of the rework for a taste of bass.
ILLENIUM’s second remix this year follows his masterful Batman-inspired take on Nirvana’s 1991 classic “Something In The Way” and these two spins serve as his first releases beyond his own discography since his rework of Halsey‘s “Without Me” in 2018. The remix breaks up a string of single releases in the run up to his recently announced fifth studio album. For Nurko’s part, he’s on the heels of his debut release with Astralwerks in the form of “Eternity” with Dayce Williams.
