A stop at a diner inspired Ali Rez’s memorable new single, ‘Everything on the Menu is Vegan’

Queens, New York’s own Ali Rez found the inspiration for his latest original production in the most unlikeliest of places: a diner in Salt Lake City, Utah.

“Upon reading the menu, I became nervous reading things like ‘chicken sandwich’ or ‘jerk chicken burrito,’ but when the waiter approached, I was reassured that ‘everything on the menu is vegan,’” the producer said.

That confirmation would become the namesake for the follow-up to “Be a Light,” “Everything on the Menu is Vegan.” The delightfully quirky, idiosyncratic single, led by Rez’s own vocal looping the song’s title, slaps the waiter’s sentiment atop the deep quiver of a dark bassline. The techno-leaning number, released on World Vegan Day (November 1), has roots that go far deeper than Rez’s passing experience in the diner. Rez, an eviction defense attorney who serves as a member of the New York City Bar Association’s Animal Rights Committee, is also the founder of a food waste non-profit organization. On “Everything on the Menu is Vegan,” the first-generation Iranian-American producer of many talents merges personal philosophy and lifestyle with music production, culminating in an original single that shines with authenticity.
