Romy, Fred again.. reunite on awaited Boiler Room ID, ‘Strong’

Even with Actual Life 3 not even a month old yet, Fred again.. is still unloading the new music. And the Dancing Astronaut Artist to Watch in 2022 is doing so by reuniting with Romy for their “Lights Out” successor. Fred again..’s now-iconic Boiler Room set had more than a few IDs that had been on everyone’s minds and while some were apart of his junior album, others—like “Strong” and “Rumble”—were destined for a release at some point in the near future.

“Strong” marks the third time that the two have crossed paths, following the forenamed single with HAAi from earlier this year as well as “Lifetime,” which Fred again.. had co-produced. And “Strong” picks up right where they left on with “Lights Out,” combining the best of both Fred again..’s unequaled production and Romy’s glistening vocals. Both Romy and Fred again.. shared a message along with the “Strong” release, stating,

“‘Strong’ came from a moment in my life when I was processing past grief. Whilst writing the lyrics I was thinking about my cousin Luis, we both have the shared experience of our mums passing away when we were young. I recognise in him the same trait I have which is to try and hold emotions down and put on a brave face. The song was a way to connect with these feelings, offer support and ultimately find a sense of release in the euphoria of music. Luis is with me on the single cover and in the music video too which was really special. My friendship with Fred means a lot to me, our closeness helps me to feel safe to be honest and vulnerable lyrically and we definitely connect over our love of songwriting and emotions in dance music. It’s amazing and inspiring seeing and hearing what Fred is doing in his solo work and I’m very excited to be releasing this song together.” – Romy

“I’ve been playing this song in sets for 2 years now and I wanna say how much I appreciate everyone who’s messaged about it! And your patience!!! But yes above all to romy who is perhaps the most kind soft and sensitive person I’ve ever met. Roms has written very beautifully already about the aspect of her grief that this song touches upon for her. And I couldn’t say it better than she has. So I won’t try! All I can say is that I’m honoured to be involved in it at all.” – Fred again..
