Carl Cox breaks decade-plus album hiatus with ‘Electronic Generations’

For the first time since 2012, Carl Cox has delivered a full-length album. While the techno king has constructed a slew of mixtape “albums” in the time since, Electronic Generations marks the official successor to All Roads Lead to the Dance Floor, which landed almost a decade to the day prior. Original plans for the album had been announced earlier in the year through the release of “Speed Trials On Acid” with Fatboy Slim, however, Electronic Generations had been rescheduled to its current arrival date so Cox could ensure it was truly worth the wait.

Landing as a double-disc LP, the A-side of Electronic Generations see 17 originals from Cox himself, while the B-side rounds up six remixes on top of one reprise of the eponymous track, making for nearly two unremitting hours of top-shelf techno. In addition to five unique reworks of “Speed Trials On Acid,” Chase & Status‘s drum ‘n’ bass spin of “Our Time Will Come” also made the album cut. And two other names make collaborative appearances with Nicole Moudaber and Franky Wah. Easily one of the longest standing techno names in the dance music scene, Cox continues to experiment with untapped sounds and kicks under the techno umbrella, incorporating classic melodies with present-day taste that creates a grooving, cohesive unit that is Electronic Generations.
