Dimitri Vegas applies his touch to Orang Utan’s ‘Sugarmama’
Dimitri Vegas gives Hamburg, Germany-hailing duo Orang Utan’s single, “Sugarmama,” a futuristic rinse on an edit that unites the indie, progressive house, and electro-funk hallmarks of Orang Utan’s style with Vegas’ larger-than-life sound. The lively singles sources its energy from upbeat breakdowns where the song’s futuristic inclinations are most audible, a soaring hook that loops the track’s title, and last but not least, piano chords that add a sense of boldness to the vibrant cut.
The Dimitri Vegas edit of Orang Utan’s “Sugarmama” nestles into the masked duo’s modest but expanding catalog, which traces back to 2021’s breakout single, “Who’s Your Love?” The one-off provided as strong a start as ever for Orang Utan; the introductory number, released via Ultra Records, quickly went viral, picking up syncs on several Netflix shows, as well as in EA Sports’ FIFA 2022. The Ultra Records signees, who conceal their identities behind ape masks, in the theme of their Orang Utan moniker, continue their rise with the Dimitri Vegas edit of “Sugarmama,” now streaming everywhere via Position Music.
