Zeds Dead, GRiZ turn in highly anticipated crossover on Deadbeats, ‘Ecstasy of Soul’

“What is something people are not ready to hear?” Throughout the past year, many would have immediately answered that with the line, “GRiZ, yeah, Zeds Dead.” And whether or not anyone is actually prepared for it, the two have finally delivered “Ecstasy of Soul” after gracing attendees’ ears for more than a year. While the previously unreleased crossover had remained top of mind day in and day out, Zeds Dead abruptly took to their Instagram to tease its long-awaited release by posting a photo of the trio together along with the caption of that already iconic line, leading to its release 48 hours later.

‘Ecstasy of Soul” undoubtedly remained both artists’ single most-requested song since it debuted during the inaugural back-to-back appearance between Zeds Dead and GRiZ at Goldrush Festival back in September of 2021. Now arriving via Deadbeats, the three-headed powerhouse of a collaboration opens with a cover of the theme song from “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” before launching into the signature cacophonous, bass-heavy sounds that both sides are known and loved for. With the track already proving to be a massive festival anthem, the official form of Zeds Dead and GRiZ lives up to all the anticipation and is brimming with a brilliant merger of both artists’ sound design. And with another back-to-back locked in for HiJinx this New Year’s Eve, “Ecstasy of Soul” can only be reasonably assumed to be the first of many unions between the two. Zeds Dead explained that the idea behind it came from the straightforward goal of presenting something new at Goldrush, adding,

“We were doing a big back-to-back set in Arizona and wanted to create something super epic for the intro. We tossed around a few ideas and finally decided to try something with a version of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly theme. Something about the Wild West and the new frontier seemed to be calling our name. GRiZ is the best and this was a lot of fun to work on, it brought us back to our old remixing days. We’ve been playing it at every show since and it’s gotten the most insane reactions. Stoked to finally put it out!”
