LAYZ’s statement-making debut EP, ‘EYE OF THE STORM,’ makes landfall
After heavy road testing, “SURGE” and “TEMPEST” are hitting streaming platforms courtesy of LAYZ’s EYE OF THE STORM EP. The pair of tracks, which enjoyed live playout throughout the past few months leading up to the project’s landing date, sidles up with “INCOMING,” her EP-completing collaboration with RZRKT. EYE OF THE STORM is LAYZ’s debut EP and the first EP to be released via Bassweight Records since April of 2021. It’s a hell of a way to start the year for a producer who has steadily climbed dubstep’s ranks since 2020. In the handful of years that have followed, her breakout, LAYZ—born Leyla Ali—has compellingly crafted her name-making resume with “SPARK” (released via Kayzo’s label and featured in Fortnite), a doublet of tracks on Subsidia’s Night compilation albums, and “UMBRA,” which surfaced on the GRL GANG Presents: RIOT! compilation, among other accolades.
In true LAYZ fashion, the EP reflects her meticulous but raucous approach to dubstep production, with original sounds captured from her daily life. “I had a lot of fun creating this EP from start to finish. From standing in the pouring rain recording content for ‘INCOMING,’ running outside my house with my microphone to record real, organic rain and thunder sound effects, and stressful nights trying to hit the deadline…it was all with it.”
EYE OF THE STORM coincides with the announcement of a 20-date headline tour that will take her across North America and Canada. Peruse tour dates and stream the EP below.
