The wheels for a reunion between Blanke and Luma were set in motion towards the end of 2022. The former called upon the latter to stand beside him on the stage during his birthday celebration at Webster Hall. And the two went on to introduce the terminal piece to their collaborative trilogy—following “Like A Nightmare” and “Survive“—during Blanke’s Earth To the Stars tour stop in the heart of New York City. Little did anyone know at the time that there were still two other names yet to be publicly disclosed. Fast forward more than a month later and the curtains have been dropped on all four contributions behind “Used to Losing You,” with helloworld and JT Roach joining its quick turnaround release on Monstercat.

In its final form, “Used to Losing You” sees a four-headed, powerhouse combination culminate with Blanke and helloworld matching up on the production front and Luma and JT Roach crossing singer-songwriter lines. Undeniably one of the most eye-catching collaborative outings that dance music has seen thus far in 2023, “Used to Losing” flawlessly balances the producer pair’s rich melodic bass recipes between the duet’s authentic, emotional-filled message of heartbreak, resulting in a way-too-early hopeful for the year’s most memorable release efforts. Blanke, helloworld, and Luma all shared a message behind the making of the mega-release, stating,

“So happy to be collaborating with so many friends on this song! Brit (Luma), JT, and Drew (helloworld) are all incredible artists and friends of mine. Luma and JT portray such a vulnerable story. I think we’ve put together something truly moving, beautiful, and unique. We hope you love it like we do!” – Blanke

“‘Used to Losing You’ is one of those songs that when you hear it you can just imagine it being played out to thousands of people. I get goosebumps when I hear it and had so much fun working on it.” – helloworld

“Some songs just move you, whether it’s the lyric or the melody or the overall feeling. I think ‘Used To Losing You’ shines because of the relatability it provides but also because down to the bones, it was made by friends. We’ve all worked together before in some capacity and I think that will always influence the kind of song being made. It’s special because the crew is special!”  – Luma
