Gryffin welcomes the post-‘Alive’ era with ‘Dreams’

When Gryffin took a well-deserved vacation to Kauai, Hawaii in early February after his Alive album run through the end of 2022, he slotted just a little extra time for business purposes. That resulted in breathtaking, hour-long stream that he recorded just off the water—and also adjacent to a golf course—with a batch of unreleased music. And those included a Last Heroes’ edit of “Whole Heart,” a Midnight Kids rework of “Woke Up In Love,” and Gryffin’s first piece of music since his sophomore album in November of 2022. That ID is now here exactly a month following its debut, with Gryffin welcoming in his post-Alive chapter with “Dreams.”

Gryffin explained that in the process of making “Dreams,” it was “the first time in a long [he] finally [felt] creatively free and excited about the music making process again.” He added that in the time since the pandemic, he couldn’t shake the feeling of wondering how his listeners would react or how the song would perform commercially. But with “Dreams,” he left any and every expectation at the studio door, sampling Gabrielle’s 1993 classic of the same name and channeling the classic, summer-tinged house approach from his SoundCloud remix era of the early-to-mid 2010s. With a long overdue return to Bayfront Park—his first time since 2016—Gryffin will bring “Dreams” and more of his next era with him to downtown Miami.
