ILLENIUM channels roots on pop-punk infused album single with American Teeth, ‘Insanity’
When ILLENIUM announced his self-titled fifth studio album back January, he described it “as a prequel to the Trilogy where [he gets] to explore [his] original musical inspirations and blend something that truly feels fresh.” His sixth ILLENIUM single sounds like exactly that. And “Insanity” with American Teeth arrives on the heels of “Luv Me A Little” with Nina Nesbitt, which serves as a fitting sonic precursor to the album’s newest inclusion.
American Teeth’s angsty lyrical approach perfectly compliments the pop-punk driven drums and acoustics that play alongside ILLENIUM’s signature bass sound. It’s a seamless fusion of new and old, paying homage to a distinct, nostalgic sound many grew up on and features a modern twist that sounds right at home on ILLENIUM’s upcoming fifth album. Every single thus far—including “Shivering” with Spirit Box, “All That Really Matters” with Teddy Swims, “From The Ashes” with Skylar Grey, and “Worst Day” with MAX—have lived up to ILLENIUM’s promise that the album would be an ode to the music that inspired him while growing up. He elaborated further that the entire project—due April 28—is “made to be played live, with a band.” And one one can’t help but imagine a modern day boy band complete with a drummer, guitarist and vocalist belting out the chords to “Insanity” to arenas all over the globe, beginning at the end of May at The Gorge.
