At the core of Mars’ music lies the unmistakable pulse of the TB-303, which he skillfully intertwines with an array of analog hardware, looped vocals, and a dark pop sensibility. For In Time, Mars decided to return to his roots, chopping classic drum breaks and incorporating rave stabs and ’90s piano riffs reminiscent of iconic artists like Moby, The Prodigy, Omni Trio, DJ Krust, and 4am Kru.
Reflecting on his creative process, Mars shared, “Over the past few years, I have experienced some great loss on a personal level, which led me to think deeply about the way living beings change over time.” This contemplation also sparked thoughts about the connections between dispersed objects that once held deep meaning and how they may still influence the lives of those who encounter them.
