Watch this: Feenixpawl feat. Quilla – Universe (Preview)
Feenixpawl, the Aussies who brought you "In My Mind" last year are at it again with a rip-roaring, turbo-powered single entitled "Universe" featuring the vocals of Canadian Quilla. The track is scheduled for full release on November 23rd, but today we're bringing you a little preview courtesy of the folks over at Neon Records. If you're a Pete Tong fan, you may also recognize the David Tort remix that was played on last week's Essential Selection, also to be included in the release package.
Walden releases ‘Ciaco’ with accompanying cartoonish music video
Australian teenage producer Walden is back with his newest single "Ciaco" (out today on Beatport) after massive success from hits like "Brightness" and more recently "Warmonger" on Big Beat Records. Not exactly sure what's going on in this music video (is it an ode to Avatar? Tron? A weird spacey cartoon acid trip? Back to the Future Part 4?), but it gives us an opportunity to listen to the full track uninterrupted. Sign up now if you're in the mood for an all-or-nothing synthed-out dance party in your headphones.
The Prototypes – Suffocate EP
If The Prototypes were not already known for their big room, vocal drum-and-bass productions, their recent release of the Suffocate EP on Shogun Audio has firmly solidified their place among the new wave of promising production teams within this genre. Similar to 2010's "Cascade," the title track off this EP relies on a powerful vocal topline to complement characteristic breakbeats and a captivatingly melodic bass line.
Good Morning Mix – Lee Foss’s BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix (11/10/2012)
Lee Foss, one half of Hot Creations and one quarter of Hot Natured, debuted a stunning Essential Mix this past weekend on Radio 1. A native Chicagoan, Foss introduced the mix as a showcase of his history and upbringing, but also as a tribute to Ben Wilson, a promising high school basketball player whose sudden death sparked a social uprising during the urban crack heyday in 1984. The mix is dynamic and emotive, keeping both an eye on the past and the future much as Hot Creations' originals seem to do. The entire body of work is worth a dedicated listen, but we've also pulled out some of our highlights below.
Porter Robinson & Mat Zo – Easy (Original Mix) [Preview]
In a bit of a dream team scenario, Porter Robinson & Mat Zo have exposed the first preview of their new collaboration, entitled "Easy." Pete Tong got the first play on this one last Friday on BBC Radio 1, but we also noticed Mat Zo played an extended version during his TATW 450 set over the weekend in Bangalore. Is this the tune of 2012? Maybe, maybe not. We can, however, confirm from the two minute clip here that "Easy" is a well-produced, feel good, and universally catchy track. We don't have specific details on the release, but sounds like it will be out on Ministry of Sound around the first of year.
Dance music world bids adieu to Martin Dawson
We were very saddened to learn today of the passing of Berlin-based, English house music producer Martin Dawson. According to our friends over at Resident Advisor, Dawson suffered a crippling brain aneurysm about ten days ago and was unable to recover. He has worked both on his own accord (as King Roc as well as Martin Dawson) and with Giles Smith as Two Armadillos. Dawson has consistently produced quality house music for the last decade and his presence will surely be missed in the dance music world.
Matty Menck & Social Phunk – Are You Ready For Love (Federico Scavo Remix)
German producers Matty Menck & Social Phunk's "Are You Ready For Love," originally released on Toolroom Records back in May, is a fantastic disco house tune, but man does Federico Scavo turn it up a notch on remix duties. It's a wonderful feeling when a rework manages to completely kick the ass of an already quality original track. Truly blurring the lines between a techno driver and a joyous vocal club tune, Scavo makes a good thing better through a funky minimal bass line. This one's an excellent way to kick off your weekend. Listen to the full track after the break.
Swedish House Mafia to announce final date on One Last Tour Tuesday at 9am EST
Swedish House Mafia will finally announce the last stop of their One Last Tour tomorrow at 9am EST according to the video just released above. The trio will be hitting up Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Singapore in early 2013 before heading to many stops throughout the United States. The tour site lists March 9th as the final date so far, which would conveniently coincide with Ultra Music Festival beginning in Miami the following weekend. Would it be too obvious to assume the trio end their story much the same way it began? We will find out for sure tomorrow morning. Check back for updates.
