DA’s heroes of HARD Summer 2013
The rest of the world may be galavanting in Ibiza, clubbing in Berlin, or recovering from a once-in-a-lifetime experience at Tomorrowland, but fans of electronic music on the West Coast are gearing up for HARD Summer this weekend in Los Angeles. HARD Summer is part of Gary Richard's highly respected HARD brand, with other events like HARD Day of the Dead and now HARD Red Rocks taking center stage. Although HARD was acquired by Live Nation in June of last year, they've managed to maintain an air of authenticity to their brand and that brand is all about fewer furry boots and more quality music.
Ahead of US release, Rudimental make entire debut album ‘Home’ available online
If the name Rudimental is still new to your ears -- listen up now. The quartet's LP Home has already hit number one in the UK (it was original released in late April of this year), and now ahead of its US release next week, the group has made all twelve tracks available for stream, courtesy of SPIN. Many of the group's records, songs like "Feel The Love," "Spoons," "Waiting All Night," and "Hell Could Freeze" have already seen massive success as singles -- and for good cause. Like other artists like Disclosure, AlunaGeorge, and Bondax, Rudimental are promoting a quality and accessible UK sounds across Atlantic waters with influences from '90s house, jungle, two-step, and beyond. They're getting noticed, and fast (even Beyonce has declared herself a fan).
Modeselektor and Apparat team up as Moderat for new album ‘II,’ now available for full stream
Moderat is the child of German duo Modeselektor and Apparat, and the trio are back with their second (appropriately named) LP, II, due out on August 6. The eleven track effort is a shining example of modern electronic music and the full album is now available for a full and uninterrupted stream on NPR's website. It's part dreamy and ambient, part dark and dramatic, and well-supported by Apparat's vocals throughout. Although the individual styles of these artists may not seem totally confluent with one another, II never seems to indicate any real conflict.
Flo Rida’s latest single ‘Can’t Believe It’: samples Infinity Ink’s ‘Infinity,’ pulls video inspiration from Diplo
In the latest example of rappers turning to dance music for catchy bass lines, Flo Rida and Pitbull have taken it upon themselves to (legally) obtain the very recognizable core of Infinity Ink's smash underground hit "Infinity" from last year. It's not much better than the Arty/Mat Zo - Will.i.am fiasco with the "Rebound" sample, but at the very least the rapper got permission to use the sample from Infinity Ink's management, as Mixmag reports.

Dancing Astronaut presents Axis, Episode 067: Mixed by Tom Flynn
Tom Flynn is a bit of a prolific figure in the world of house and techno these days. In 2013 alone, he's released four EPs (on Anja Schneider's Mobilee Records, Steve Lawler's Viva Music, and Nick Curly's 8Bit) and appeared on a slew of compilations and remixes -- in addition to his weighty touring schedule. His sound is difficult to bucket, but he represents everything from driving techno to slamming vocal house to tribal instrumental breaks. Tom Flynn is certainly a name worthy of the dance music world's radar, and we are very excited to welcome to our latest episode of Axis.
