EDC NY announces set times for 2014
EDC NY returns to Met Life stadium this Memorial Day Weekend, for what promises to be the Insomniac festival New York has been waiting for. The two-day extravaganza split its talent across four stages, with Hardwel, Afrojack, Bassnectar, and Carl Cox b2b Loco Dice all competing for Saturday's closing attention. On Sunday, Tiesto, Steve Angello, Nero, and Claude VonStroke take on the festival closing duties. With new music and new albums coming down the line from Hardwell, Afrojack, Bassnectar, Tiesto, Steve Angello and Nero, the conflicts (and the struggle) are tougher than usual this year.
Start planning your Mysteryland US weekend, set times officially announced
Mysteryland's stateside debut is less than a week away and the art and music crossover festival has just announced its official set times. Not limited to just stages and DJs, the Mysteryland schedule includes a variety of art exhibitions, a food-based street fair and much much more. Nicky Romero's Protocol Reboot NY kicks things off on Friday and from there the experience doesn't slow down, pairing abstract artwork with mainstream electronic music. While the most rewarding way to experience the festival is going to be to wander and stumble upon new and wild experiences, the official schedule should help make things a bit easier for the itinerary focused festival-goers in the crowd.
Showtek unveil exclusive Mysteryland US Mix ahead of inaugural festival
In anticipation of their upcoming Main Stage performance at Mysteryland's US debut, the Janssen brothers curate an exclusive mix ahead of the forthcoming Memorial Day madness set to take place at the home of the original Woodstock. An hour's worth of festival-friendly drops and the hardstyle meets electro style that put Showtek at the top of the big room heap, this exclusive mix serves as the perfect warm up to a weekend spent at Bethel Woods. The original Woodstock may have had wailing guitars, but it's going to be EDM's descension on the small town in Upstate New York that leaves a lasting impact for future generations to follow.
Beatport takes a stand against cheaters, but raises larger questions
The Beatport Top 10 has been the target of criticism since very early in its inception. Ghost-producing and pay-to-win tactics have plagued it since early in its lifecycle, but it's not the charts or Beatport's fault. Rather, the fault lies in that of the industry itself, and the a fundamental flaw by which success and popularity are actually measured. An endemic obsession with quantifiable rankings has overshadowed the focus on quality music. When so much of the attention is targeted at a chart based on revenue, it completely misrepresents the actual popularity or the true trends of a highly ephemeral culture. The fact that it can be manipulated so blatantly is just the cherry on top of a larger problem and further diminishes its value in the conversation.
Armin van Buuren x Mercer – Ping Pong (Late Night Edition) [Free Download]
With less than two weeks away from his EDC New York takeover, French phenom MERCER twists up Armin van Buuren's "Ping Pong" in an elastic band of gritty electro destined for main stage indoctrination. One of big room electro's most promising talents, his take on AvB's latest smash matches the original's panning pongs with an elephant dose of Acid arps and massive kicks to match.
