The Dutch/Danish collective uses “Freedom” to spotlight the two vital juxtapositions that have hallmarked one of the most consumed forms of club music of the past decade. Soaring melodic developments and intricate composure leads towards an awe-inspiring apex of heavyset kicks and heavy handed lead work. Never has there been a more clear-cut embodiment of where the European market has finely-tuned and ultimately bottled the sound of high-octane festival moments, one that pinpoints the charisma and coherence that both Jay Hardway and Mike Hawkins are bringing to the table in spite of their relatively short careers. The critics are unlikely to waiver arguments that the big room sound is spending itself short in 2014, but “Freedom” is an unapologetic argument for its state of play and relevance on the digital market right now.
