Ten must see veterans at Ultra Music Festival 2013
Over the course of its two weekends, there are nearly 300 artists performing at Ultra Music Festival this year. In 2013, the festival is celebrating its 15th anniversary as dance music's most celebrated occasion and the season's highly anticipated kick off. In that period of time, the lineup has changed a lot -- not just in scope but also in sound -- but there are names that remain pillars of Miami's greatest electronic music tradition. These are names who've been at it longer than many of us have been walking and they deserve not just a tip of the hat, but also your time and attention at their impending Ultra sets. How will we know where we're going if we don't know where we've been?
Good Morning Mix – Richard Knott’s March 2013 Mix
Richard Knott, the young UK producer responsible for a remix of Unicorn Kid's "Feel So Real" and "Locus Solus" off Pryda Friends, has been of interest in DA land for months now. A Pryda Friends release made me pay attention, but a piece of work like this mix this means Knott is not playing games. Quite simply, this mix is one of the most tightly mixed and well-selected collections of progressive, techno, and tech house I've ever encountered. In the last 24 hours, I've listened to it no fewer than five times.
DA’s Sunday Morning Medicine
This week's SMM features some delightful downtempo courtesy of Pierce Fulton and Troumaca, as well as a serenely absorbing original from Goldroom. As usual, SMM's brings the deeper, minimal house selections with an original from French Express's Jonas Rathsman. Rounding out this week's dose is Flight Facilities' latest work: a worldly seven minute adventure.
Skream teams up with Pete Tong for annual All Gone Miami mix
Every year on his road from Miami to Ibiza, Pete Tong delivers a compilation of what is, in his mind, a aural record of that particular moment in time. The All Gone series has and will continue to be an important indicator of the current musical landscape, and there is no better man to orchestrate such a thing. For this year's Miami mix, Pete has recruited the multitalented and hugely successful Skream.
UPDATED FOR PHASE 3: Cross-reference Ultra’s dual lineups with our artist table
Those that haven't decided which weekend to attend Ultra Music Festival may find it inconvenient wading through the lineup in picture format to find their most complimentary weekends. Thus, we compiled a searchable table that is alphabetical by performer and illustrates each artist's respective weekends.
Fehrplay at Santos Party House: 5 tracks you need to know
Late last month, Pryda Friends stand-out Fehrplay, performed to a sold out crowd at Santos Party House in Manhattan; displaying both his effortless finesse behind the decks, as well as a Prydz-level ability to deliver a set that was both melodic and extraordinarily energetic.
