Editorial: Metamorphosis – a weekend at Marquee Las Vegas
Pretend you’ve never been to Marquee (at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.) Adrenaline seeps into your veins as you step through the velvety partitions. You are surrounded by suits and legs bookended by ultra-mini dresses and stilettos. Just before the elevator doors opens, the operator mirrors the grins around him and says, “Have fun tonight!” Drink in hand, you make your way to the floor. In case you weren’t sure, a mural on a wall proclaims, “You’re not in Kansas anymore.”
Nero and Hardwell steal the show at OMFG! NYE in San Diego
There was no shortage of New Year’s Eve events to choose from this year, but when the two day lineup for LED’s OMFG in San Diego was released, there was no question where I was going to spend my final days of 2012. With a behemoth lineup consisting of Jack Beats, Nervo, Calvin Harris, Nero, Dillon Francis, Hardwell, Zedd, Laidback Luke and more, OMFG boasted an astounding array of talent over its two day spread.
Updated: Tiësto signs with Red Light Management, leaves Complete Control
Billboard Biz reports that Tiësto has severed ties with Complete Control, the Brooklyn-based management company that he has worked with for years, moving instead to Red Light Management whose list of clients extend far beyond that of the electronic genre. The change marks another milestone in the juggernaut producer's career, once again re-asserting the growth and mainstream acceptance of the EDM-movement.
Dancing Astronaut’s Top 25 Underground Artists of 2012: 15-6
The underground had a big year in the US in 2012 and we only felt it appropriate to highlight some of these amazing artists independently from potentially bigger or more commercial artists in the dance music world today. We considered the year these artists have had in terms of production, live sets, and overall influence. We also generally picked artists we love and admire; artists we feel are extremely important to pushing electronic music forward. This list of 25 names includes legends and young guns alike, but we can assure you that every single one of these artists is incredibly talented and is well worth a listen or a trip to a club for a live set. Picking up where we left off yesterday, we will continue the countdown with our picks from #15 to the #6 spot.
